When you’re talking about SEO (Search engine optimization) it can seem like there’s a lot of technical terms and links are no different. Internal and external links serve a number of purposes when it comes to SEO, from bringing authority into a website to distributing it between pages and out to other websites, but it can be confusing to always know the differences between them
So this can be quite a confusing one, there are lots of different types of links. You obviously have inbound links, external links and internal links.
Now, inbound links, as the name suggests, are links that are coming into your site…into your website from other websites. Now, these are really important when it comes to SEO because each link carries some authority, and that authority can be passed onto your website.
And then when it comes to the internal links, these links are everything that happens within your domain, within your website, so these links will then pass authority through to your other pages in your website. So, for example, you might have your home page at the top here, and then you link through to your category pages, which passes some of that juice, and then those category pages link through to your product pages, to make sure that they’re all going to have a chance of ranking.
External links, I wanted to cover this one as well, because these are important. So these are links that are pushing out to other websites, so when you may link to an article that’s related to a piece of content that you’ve written, these are referred to as external links. They also pass authority to other websites, so they can be useful to another website that you’re linking to. So I hope that answers your question. Thank you.
